VALL present at the America's Cup 2024

Oct 31, 2023

The Valencian company Metro Lineal Obras s.l. entrusted VALL with the construction of the facilities for the INEOS BRITANNIA team on the Muelle de España in Barcelona's Port Vell. A rectangular building with a two-storey steel structure and a surface area of 1600 square metres.

In this 37th edition, the competition will start in Barcelona on 22 August 2024. In the summer of 2023, the teams have already settled in Barcelona to begin training for this competition that brings together the best sailing teams in the world. Barcelona will not only host the official opening. It will also be the venue for the final preliminary race and the Challenger Selection Series, which will preside over the America's Cup Match in October of the same year. The previous edition took place in 2021 in New Zealand (it would have been held in 2020, but the pandemic delayed its celebration). 40,000 spectators watched the competition live on site and 1,600 boats sailed as spectators. These are figures that the 2024 edition of the America's Cup in Barcelona hopes to amply surpass.

VALL will be present at the America's Cup 2024 building the INEOS BRITANNIA team's facilities.

Our company has been chosen by Metro Lineal Obras, S.L., concessionaire of the INEOS BRITANNIA team, to build the main structure, the interior floor structures, the roof, enclosures and accesses of its facilities for the America's Cup 2024. The work carried out in a short time to house everything necessary for the INEOS BRITANNIA team has already been completed. They will house the team and everything necessary on shore during training and during the competition. On Thursday 20th July 2023, the INEOS BRITANNIA team moved to these facilities located in a privileged place next to the old IMAX, which will host the America's Cup Experience, an America's Cup outreach centre that will undoubtedly receive thousands of visitors once it is open. The AC40s were moved there, along with the crew, the boats, personal and sporting equipment. The arrival of the two 11.80 metre monohulls with hydrofoils marked the beginning of the preparation in Barcelona. On the 1st of August, training began with different vessels to those previously used in Palma.

Good luck in the competition for the Ineos Britania team.

The America's Cup, the oldest international sailing competition in the world, is based in Barcelona.

Did you know that the America's Cup is the oldest international sporting competition in the world? It was born in the midst of the Victorian era and its prestige has been growing ever since. In 1851 Queen Victoria and her husband Prince Albert organised the Great Exhibition with the intention that the world should see the United Kingdom as a leading nation, showcasing its excellence and technology.

Among the guests at the event was the New York Yacht Club, who at the suggestion of the royal couple sent a vessel that showcased the capabilities of American shipbuilding. This boat competed with the British fleet in a race around the British Isle of Wight. Team INEOS BRITANIA aims to win the America's Cup 2024 by winning the coveted trophy for Great Britain .To do so, they will be up against the defending team, Emirates Team New Zealand, representing the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. And other challengers like them: American Magic (USA), Luna Rossa Challenge (Italy) and Alinghi Red Bull Racing (Switzerland).

The America's Cup 2024: an injection of investment that will transform Port Vell.

The more than 120 million euros of public-private investment that Port Vell is receiving to prepare for the America's Cup will have a positive impact on the city and the whole area, with a very high expected positive impact on the local economy.

In addition to the facilities for the teams, the Port Vell is being transformed with the refurbishment of spaces, new constructions, renovations, refurbishments, new buildings, urbanised areas, remodelling, improvements... Among them, the refurbishment of the Aquarium with an investment of more than 13 million euros.

A large part of the facilities will remain after the competition and will be put to other uses in addition to the new projects promoted by the Port of Barcelona.
