Interview with Carles Vall
The changing and highly competitive economic environment in which we live leads companies to acquire buildings that are as competitive and flexible as possible in terms of capacity, quality, location and cost.
Removable industrial building is one of the main sectors that has been of great help and very relevant in this sense, with high performance, competitive and scalable prices, which can be assembled and disassembled, located and relocated according to the needs of the companies. To understand more about the benefits of these removable buildings, we talked to Carles Vall, co-founder and general manager of Vall, one of the most consolidated companies in the sector, with performance in research, development, manufacturing, assembly and disassembly. An example of technical and technological evolution with more than 30 years of experience. What are the main advantages of opting for a removable building instead of a conventional construction?
The advantages depend on the needs of each company and each project; each type of removable building has a specific purpose. There are those that are quicker to assemble and with fewer features that can cover a specific or undemanding need, such as a covered dining room for workers or a temporary warehouse while work is being carried out. On the other hand, we have high-performance buildings that function as permanent buildings for storage, manufacturing, offices, points of sale... Without a doubt, I would say that the great beneficiaries of this type of construction are companies that fluctuate more with economic and consumer trends, those that tackle new projects that require covered space quickly and that perhaps the project itself is temporary, or that the available space is not desired to occupy permanently but that a covered space is required with the benefits of conventional constructions. A removable building is a much more competitive option in terms of cost, flexibility, adaptability, construction and maintenance, which can be moved to another location, dismantled if you don't need it and even grow if your market grows. It is also a very advantageous option for distribution logistics companies, since, with very competitive costs, you can have storage and distribution points. A world leader in distribution, for example, opted for this type of building to expand its shipping network and has equipped them with the latest technology to create very competitive and efficient logistics centres quickly and effectively. Finally, I would like to point out that removable buildings are a very sustainable product compared to conventional construction, in terms of environmental conservation, impact and CO2 containment as well as in the reuse of materials that compose it, so it is certainly a very interesting product also for companies committed to the environment.
SPACE
You have told us that there are different types of industrial building, could you describe some of them in more detail?
Of course, we have industrial buildings that can be set up in 1000m2 in a single day, specifically the EcoSpace model. Then there is AluSpace or SteelSpace which, depending on the type, size and equipment, can have 1000 m2 in a week. And finally we have MaxiSpace, the large system which, depending on its size, can be available in 4/5 weeks, for example 3000 m2. All these models can be adapted and applied for many areas of activity, sports centres, the aviation sector, etc. The latest MaxiSpace are high-performance roofing systems that compete with and are an alternative to conventional constructions.
SPACE
Which one is your star product?
I would say mainly two, the AluSpace, for its versatility, and the MaxiSpace, for its capacity and performance. Although more and more, and due to higher requirements of resistance and performance, MaxiSpace would be the one that stands out, customers looking for permanent or semi-permanent solutions, large open spaces or high performance, makes this option in steel increasingly popular. Although the aluminium buildings are the best known and most common, the one that has been produced and offered for the longest time in the removable building market, the demand for steel structures has not stopped increasing since it was introduced in the market and is offering higher levels of satisfaction and performance than the aluminium options, which is why we consider it to be our star product at present.
Can we say that the removable steel building is more advanced?
Yes, clearly this is a clear evolution compared to aluminium systems, as the limitations of the material itself mean that it is often not possible to meet the technical requirements that the sites sometimes require, or that the costs of aluminium systems are higher to meet them. This is especially true for long-term or very long-term projects. Our MaxiSpace light steel system offers great performance in terms of durability, adaptability and above all in meeting the regulatory requirements where they are to be installed. Our solutions not only adapt to the requirements where they will be installed, but we can also provide them with all the necessary systems and components, such as heating, cooling, lighting, fire exits, etc. to operate in the same way as a conventional installation. The result is a complete building with all the regulations in force, perfectly adapted for its use. And in the case of a MaxiSpace building, also in large formats. Steel is a very versatile solid material, not least because it is easy to recycle and is 100% recyclable. In other words, when you recycle 1m3 of used steel, you get 1m3 of new steel.Would you say that the steel option is the most appropriate for those who are thinking of purchasing a removable building?
I would certainly invite them to study the advantages that a steel structure could offer them, which are many. However, each case is particular and there are situations, requirements, particularities that for the use that will be given, for its location or size, do not need such great benefits, and the versatility, speed of implementation of the aluminium option is the most appropriate. From our experience, one of our values is not only to provide the solution but the most important thing is to listen to the needs of our customers and use our experience to advise and work together to give the best solution that each case requires. We put all our commitment and experience of more than 30 years in the sector at the disposal of our clients and we consider this to be one of our greatest values.
